Welcome to our new fancy pants website! Part of the process of developing a new web platform includes moving a lot of content from one digital home to the next. And this blog entry represents the first of this big move.
So what better way to kick things off than reposting our very first blog post from PROTOCOL wine studio? (Read below the picture to see this re-post.)
The picture however, is from much later in our history, when we took some time out of our schedule to conduct what we affectionally called "PROTOCOL Day" and visited some of San Diego's best wineries.
Oh how the wheels of time do turn dear readers! And surely we've all taken our fair share of jabs from the business end of the fork of life. But for all the jabs we’ve received along the way, there’s been incredible learning, sharing and growing.
It’s a well known concept that grape vines produce the best fruit when placed under stressful conditions, where the water is sparse, the ground is rocky and the environment shifts widely. As it goes with the vines so it goes with the wine entrepreneur. But that’s the price to pay for growth and longevity. Even so, we have to wonder if the grape has the the inherent understanding that for all it endures, there is a bounty that awaits.
We can’t speak for how the grape feels, but as for PROTOCOL, it's certainly clear that the journey has its own rewards. And so here we are, out on the raggedy edge, working, growing, prospering. We thank you for walking along with us for a spell and look forward to walking with you for a while longer yet. Cheers!
PROTOCOL wine's First Blog Post: Repost
The funny thing about a startup’s journey is that it forces us to look beyond our comfort zone. The whole process seems to take on a life of its own and the more power we give it, the better the rewards. Don’t get me wrong though, by rewards I’m not talking monetary, but those elusive personal rewards of becoming something better than your original self.
We start on this path towards something and think we’re moving in a certain direction, but in reality there is always the inevitable “fork” in the road. Your ideals and dreams remain unchanged but the getting there alters. We’ve made so many mistakes, but the funny thing about mistakes is that if you surround yourself with good people, those mistakes won’t cost you everything. Yes, they’ll sting something awful, but you’re still safe.
A startup is about having a business partner who has the same ideals, albeit with different twists, but that’s part of the fun. This is also about our life partners who believe in us, no matter how crazy the day unfolds. It’s a journey of discovery, finding geek wines and sharing the story of each wine and the people who bring it to glass: taste it, share it, live it!
Come along for the ride and get “forked.”
